holding a ceremony in a park?

Has anyone had any experience planning this? I am trying to hold my wedding ceremony in a beautiful park that has a perfect gazebo...everyone I ask tells me that they you cannot "reserve" a public park area because it is for "public use." Can someone please tell me what to do here...I cannot plan all of this and cross my fingers the day of that it will be available. Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated!

  1. This is an extremely good idea especially if you are on a budget. I am a wedding planner and do this all the time. Make sure you get some decorations to decorate the gazebo. Most public parks with pinic areas can be reserved, or atleast the ones here in florida can be. Otherwise, i dont think this will be a problem. Have a grandmother, or a mom or someone close go there about 3 hours early to set up the gazebo, noone will both it if someone is over there.
  2. Sure you can-especially a gazebo like that. Call the public works or city hall and find out about reserving the gazebo park for that day for that time slot. Bear in mind, you can't garantee that other folks that are ambling around the park that day won't stop and watch your ceremony, but if you want it in a public spot, you are basically allowing that to happen. Let 'em share your joy. Best of luck.
  3. Whoever said that you can't reserve a public park area was misinformed. To be honest, if you tried to perform the ceremony without doing that it's possible you could get into a lot of trouble. Your best bet is to contact the local parks and rec department. They'll be able to give you the necessary information. :)
  4. Talk to the parks and recreations dept in your city most can be reserved.
  5. It is a public park but talk to the parks dept and see if it can be reserved for use. I bet you will find you can. Good luck. We had a marriage on a public beach but the area we wanted was reserved for our ceremony.
  6. You can actually use public parks. Look up the public parks for your city and give them a call and you will need to pay for a reservation to have an event. They'll be able to help you further.
  7. you so totally can reserve stuff, idk what those people are on about who are telling you that you cant. theres loads of parks in my town and everyone of them has gazebos and shelters you can rent out. i have seen it done in other cities and states too so i know its not just my town. what you need to do is go on the website for the city the park/gazebo is in, and look up the number for whoever is in charge of the parks and stuff. i know where i live its Washington County Park Service or something like that, so look for things of that nature. then tell them what you would like to do. usually there is a small fee of about $75ish or so in order to hold that spot for the day.
  8. It really depends on who owns the park, that's what you're going to have to find out. Is it owned by the township or the county? I work for my local county parks system in NJ and we do allow you to reserve certain park areas for wedding ceremonies and wedding pictures. It's fairly inexpensive, at least for us. Do some research on who owns the park and then contact them.
  9. Hi and congratulations! This is really easy! We have such a park where I live, and the gazebo is used all the time for weddings. Here is what to do: Call the city that the park is located in. OR...go on the city's website. All cities have websites and you can usually find the "parks and recreation department." Under that listing (parks and recreation department) there will probably be information about renting/reserving the gazebo for your wedding. There is where I live and I live in a small community! (25,000 people). If you cannot find what you are looking for on the city's website, then call the city office and speak with someone. NO, you don't want to just "cross your fingers." I am almost certain that the gazebo needs to be rented/reserved and there is usually a fee involved along with some rules of "do's and don'ts." Hope this helps!
