Where can I go to find out about what a gazebo canopy can do for me? I'm looking for a gazebo canopy, but am having trouble deciding which type to go with. I'm sure there are things I haven't considered, never owning one before. Where could I go to get good general information about gazebo canopies and what to consider when planning to buy one? Thanks!
Help with geometry for a gazebo roof? A hexagonal gazebo roof, in plan, shows six equilateral triangles. The slope of the roof is 20 degrees. So the actual angles of the pieces of plywood roofing are not 60 degrees. Along each ridge there is a metal flashing which receives the siding and keeps the joint from leaking. How do I figure out the angle between two adjacent roof panels, along this line? To visualize, it is the angle at which the metal flashing will be folded to cover the joint. I know the builders will just bend it till it fits. Still, I want to know! Thanks!
Does anyone have plans for a sturdy and portable wooden gazebo type structure? So I'm working on my Eagle Project, and I am making a concession stand for my former middle school. I have been asked to make a structure that is: Portable- it will be moved to and from the softball and football fields with an industrial forklift of some sort. Which means the stand must be able to withstand periodic movement. It will rest on cinder blocks, to keep it off the ground, and make for easy transportation. The dimensions need to be 10 x 10 ft. The structure will be made with wood. It needs to have three of the four sides made with wooden counter tops, for selling snaks to customers. The back side of the structure will have a gate for workers. It must have a sturdy roof to provide shade and protection. Slotted floors (like a deck) are a must. If anyone could please post some plans that would give me an idea of what I'm up against it would be much appreciated. Thanks for reading. Thanks a lot Danny, I will definitely be using triangles in my design, i recall that fact from a math i took. Using screws are a great idea, and I have been looking for plans online for a while now. I look forward to the actual construction of this project, thanks again.
Does a Gazebo add to a home's value? I may be looking to move soon, and a small backyard gazebo might fit in the plan, will this help sell the house? Add value in a home buyers perspective?
are you allowed to put up a gazebo in a public park? We are planning a picnic in the summer for about 20 people, does anyone know if we are allowed to put up a small gazebo in the local park? Mainly for some shade. There would be no alcohol, loud music or anything. I have contacted my local council but no reply so far. Has anyone done this before, or know of the rules of what you are allowed to do in a public park? thanks xx

Planning a wedding at a lakeside gazebo in September! HELP!? I have no idea where to start! We are planning a small, private wedding with only immediate family and our closest friends. We want it to be nice but not overboard and we don't want to spend a fortune! We are planning the wedding to be at dusk and I want the gazebo lit up with lights. Any ideas on how I can do that? What about food for after wards. Should we just do bbq or have it catered? How do I start planning this thing?!?!? Where do i start?

Who's ready for spring? What are everyone's plans for spring projects? I am so ready for spring. Last year we painted the outside of our house, the play house, the garage and the gazebo. This year I'm focusing on painting the inside. How about you? Anyone garden? Sorry Bombalad. That wasn't meant to hurt you. I thought your question was a joke. Please forgive me.
Does anyone own a backyard gazebo/canopy that they really like? I'm looking for a good gazebo - not the old fashioned lattice kind, but rather the new variety that gives you a screened-in four-poster canopy area for the backyard. Do you have one that you like? Please describe it and PROVIDE A LINK for it (either where to buy it or where to get the plans to build it.) I'm trying to find one that's fairly weather resistant (rain, wind, etc.) without breaking/tipping over/collecting too much water. I'm in a cold weather state. Sadly, most online reviews I've read have been negative about all the canopies at Lowes, Home Depot, Target, etc. Thank you!
What else should I have at my birthday party? Im having a big-ish party (15-20 girls) and we'll get in my hot tub and ill play music and people can dance if they want. I have a creek and gazebo and bridge thing in my backyard, and Ill put snacks in the gazebo. I dont want to plan specific games because that's childish, I want a variety of things to do and people can do what they please. Is there anything else besides the hot tub and music/dancing we could do? Serious answers only please, thanks :)
Is a harp okay for a morning wedding outdoors? I talked to a friend who plays the harp professionally, and she agreed to play the harp for us at our wedding. At that time, we were getting married in the evening at sunset on a lake. Now our plans have changed and we're getting married @ 10:00am at a gazebo next to a lake by a city park. Its very beautiful, but I'm not sure if a harp would be appropriate, or loud enough. Any ideas?
What is the least amount of money I can spend on a wedding with 35-45 guests? I am getting married in August 2007 and we have only 5 months to save money and get this thing done. We have a beautiful gazebo in our backyard and we plan to have the wedding there. We would then like to have the reception also in the backyard, since we have a large concrete patio to put tables and chairs. But when it comes to food, decorations, music, etc, does anyone have any suggestions on how would be the best way to budget these? We are not getting any help from our families financially so we are in this alone in that respect. Please help??

What flowers bloom in August? We are planning our wedding in our huge gazebo in the backyard and we want to plant something now that will bloom in August so that we will have "natural" wedding decorations. Any suggestions? BTW we live in New Mexico, and it is a dry desert kind of climate, so something that is good for Washington state for example won't work here...
What do I need to do to have a party at my local park? By the lake there is a gazebo (Sorry, if it's spelled wrong) where me and my friends always pass while at the park and since Summer Break started today I wanted to have a big party there in about 3 weeks. I plan on having about 30 people, music, food, and sprinklers. Is there anything I need to do? Thanks!

Where should I go to get married in Las Vegas? I live in Henderson and plan to get married. Where is the best place in Las Vegas to get married if I want something very simple and cheap, but don't want it to be cheesy? I prefer a wedding with only the minister and witness there, no flowers, catering, or professional photography, and under a gazebo. Is there anywhere I could go without having to pay for the packages they offer?

I need to know if traffic and a crowded public beach in front of the inn or an overcrowded lake are normal on this weekend, and if they would significantly affect the ceremony

Marriage Proposal in New York for a first-time visitor - where is best to set the scene? Hello, I have my mind set about a marriage proposal in New York when I head out next week (gf to follow later), but I have never been there before. My vision is a candlelit gazebo in central park that I can get a carriage to pull us up to - I realise however that this is unlikely (or is it possible to, say, hire out a bandstand there in an evening?) and hence I am thinking along the lines of a beautiful roof terrace (I'm planning on booking an especially nice hotel for the night so perhaps it could be a hotel with a roof terrace - I know of the gansevoort and peninsula having one - any others?). I would hope then to convince the manager to set up a corner with said candles/arabian-nights styled cushions. Any suggestions from locals/experienced travellers about how best the make this work?
Mom is being difficult about wedding plans...? This is my first wedding and I am my moms onlky daughter. So you would think she would be happy right? First of all she's mad because we have been engaged 3 years and we are just getting married now. Has been making comments about selling dress we bought and selling all the stuff we got so far. Well now we have set a date. It's in a beautiful rose garden in a gazebo which happens to be built above a freeway so she makes comments about that. Then there's the comments that its 1.5 hours away from where we live.NOW...I have asked a friend who Ive known 6 years to be in my weding and because my mom "has a bad feelng" about her she said if she's in the wedding she's not coming. I told her I didn't know I needed her permission on who, what and where and when to have my wedding. My moms sick and I swore if I didn't get married before she died i'd never get married. I am 36 years old. Ive tried to tell her how I feel and she just don't listen. I don't want it to be like this. Help. No W I have NEVER been married before. And my parents are the ones who suggested they buy the dress. Other then that my fiance and i are paying for everything else. But I am also tired of hearing how much the dress is that they are still aying on. So I told her I would pay the interest and what is owed on it if she would just quit nagging to me about it. 1.5 hours away is not far to drive. There is no place where i live to get married that looks as beautiful as that. We are getting married right next to lake superior. I added phots on another question of the place. Petee....I was in fact ready to get married 3 years ago but fiancially we wern't ready and my fiances been married before and he was a bit nervous about it. But now we are fiancially set we have bought a house and he is ready.

Anyone have insulation and cooling solutions for a gazebo-turned-bedroom room with loft? Looking for someone who might have a little more expertise than I do on this subject. I'm looking to rent a house with some roommates. It has a large gazebo in the back, separate from the house, which is sealed and enclosed. It's basically all windows. There is electricity to the gazebo, but it isn't insulated. The roof is metal (Except for one triangular side, which is a large plexiglass window) and the flooring is tile, the kind you'd find in a nice kitchen or bathroom. It's the size of a decent-sized bedroom, but it's much taller. (I'd guess it's 12 or more feet from front to back in any direction and 15 feet to the point of the roof.) I haven't counted the sides, but it's probably octagonal or so. It has a very sturdy loft that starts where the roof starts, (Maybe 7 or 8 feet up) which is plenty large enough to put a full-sized mattress there. The loft takes up exactly half of the width of the room -- (half of the octagon shape). Of course, the roof tapers to the middle, so you can't stand toward the wall/roof edges of the loft, but it would be a great place to sleep. The problem is that it isn't insulated at all and I live in central Florida. The windows look and feel like house windows. They're pretty thick and they feel sturdy, but they're single-paned. Beneath the windows, there is just plexiglass. It's sealed very well all around the plexiglass, but there are a few cracks in the plexiglass itself. Obviously, at the very least, these portions will have to be replaced and re-sealed. I'm also thinking of replacing that part with nicer wood and trying to insulate the area some. The roof isn't insulated, either -- it's just the bare metal overhead. I'll definitely need some kind of window AC unit or standalone portable AC unit. (Never had anything but central heat & air, so I'm not sure of the advantages and disadvantages) but I'm wondering how well that would be able to cool a room like that and how much insulation would be necessary. I'm also worried that it will skyrocket the electricity bill. Would a unit like that efficiently keep moisture out of the room and keep it cool? How much insulation will be necessary for that, if any? I'm a little worried that the large amount of glass in the room might create a bit of a greenhouse effect, although I definitely plan to put blinds or curtains on every window/wall. (Including the roof window. In fact, I may even try to find another metal section for the roof, in order to close off the roof window.) Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a real place to put an AC unit that would blow air directly on the loft, so I'm worried about how hot it might get up there (I can tell right now with no insulation or AC that during the day, the loft is 5-10 degrees hotter than it is 7 or 8 feet below it.) It seems logical to me that I'd want to put the AC unit on the side of the room that DOESN'T have the loft overhead, so that it doesn't get completely trapped underneath the loft. There's a fan attached to the bottom of the loft, which circulates the air for the bottom part of the gazebo, but I don't think it would bring any air up into the loft itself. Due to the way the roof tapers up, I don't think I can hang a traditional fan from the middle of it unless the fan blades are very short, but I was thinking about mounting a small oscillating fan on a roof beam somewhere. Would that effectively move cooler air from the ground to the top of the loft? Or would it be better to put something below that's pointed up? Does anyone have any suggestions? Also, do you think insulating the roof and/or portions below the window would have much of an effect with a room that is essentially all windows? I have zero experience with this, but I'm hopeful that it can work. I've never seen someone turn a gazebo into a habitable room, but this one seems like it's pretty close already, and I like the way it's set up. I think it would be pretty cool if I can figure it out. Feel free to burst my bubble if you don't think it's feasible, but either way, I'd like some input on any of these issues. Thanks for the feedback. The landlord is definitely fine with it. In fact, the previous tenants did the same thing, apparently. And the house is a bit of a fixer-upper already, so we're planning to do some work in exchange for a deal on the rent. As for code enforcement, I'm not sure how that all works. I think it probably wouldn't qualify as a habitable space because it's so close to the river without being raised up or anything. That's the main problem I think I'd run into if I tried to get the place up to code. I figure if the previous tenants had someone living back there, though, the neighbors must not care, and I don't really think many other people would even know someone was living back there. I'd put some blinds or something all around it so no one could see that I had furniture and stuff in there. There are police boats that cruise up and down the river occasionally, but I don't think they're looking for code enforcement kind of stuff.
What color would look best with backdrop of..? Andrew and I are planning on having our wedding at a local state park. It's absolutely beautiful :o) We are doing it outdoors so I am now curious as to what colors would look best on the backdrop of the woods, a golf course and the lake! Any ideas? We are having the ceremony outside in front of a wooden gazebo and reception inside :o) Thank you! I was thinking of pink and yellow.
LOOKING FOR INSTRUCTIONS ON A GAZEBO STRUCTURE? Several years ago I saw a pattern in a garden magazine for a gazebo type structure made from rebar. I remember the basic structure but not the measurements. You take 2 "short" and 1 "long" piece of rebar, wire together (or weld?). Make four of them. Anchor them in the ground. Pull the long pieces of rebar together in an arc and secure. I believe they had wired apple trees to grow on it. Does anyone have any idea where to find this - maybe you saw the plan, too? Thank you, an arbor is what I meant. I still wish I could remember the name of that magazine!!!
I need some help with a graduation party? My brother is going to graduate in under a month. He does not plan on having a grad party because of money. I want to surprise him by setting one up and paying for everything for him. I guess I could just have it at our local park and use an outdoor gazebo with picnic tables. I need ideas for what we can do and how to make food as cheaply as possible.

Tell me about your wedding plans! :) Wedding survey?!? I'm getting married in a pretty forest with just me and my fiance's parents. Then, we're staying in a honeymoon cabin in the mountains for a week. After that, we're coming home to a wedding celebration in my fiance's parents' gorgeous backyard (stone walkways, pool, gazebo, basketball court, lots of trees) where way too many people will show up and we will have a great time. :) I chose this route to save thousands (I'd rather save for a down payment on a house) and because I felt too much pressure to make everything perfect when we were thinking of a traditional ceremony/reception. It's not exactly what I pictured as my dream wedding... but it's what we can afford. Now, everything is so relaxed and I can't wait! I love having no stress. My fiance's parents' gave us the wonderful gift of paying for our reception in their backyard, so, all in all (wedding, traveling, honeymoon, wedding celebration), it will cost about $3500. My fiance and I live with our parents (raised to not live together before marriage). I picked the right groom ;) So, I have these questions: 1) Tell me about your wedding! 2) Is it your dream wedding? 3) Are you stressed out? 4) Why did you choose to have this kind of wedding? 5) How much will it cost? 6) Who is paying for it? 7) Do you and your fiance already live together? 8) Do you prefer it this way? Why? 9) Lastly, did you pick the right groom?! And congratulations to you all! :)
where are good places to get married on myrtle beach s.c? Outdoor gazebo wedding question? My fiance and I originally planned on renting chairs for the ceremony, we're having approximately 125+ guests. We then found out that if it rains and we have to move the ceremony inside, we still have to pay for the chairs. Now, we don't want to be cheap, however, at $2.75 per chair.....I don't want to risk throwing that money out the window either. Someone then suggested just having the first couple rows (mainly for elderly) and have the remaining guests stand. Our ceremony will not be very long either. What do you think? How do you think that would look or should we just go with the chairs and take the risk? I would love to have a smaller wedding, however, I have a large family on my side and we're all very close. They would be quite offended if they weren't invited to the ceremony. Especially since I'd be the only one in the family so far that didn't.
I'm getting married in May. I need so color scheme help? I'm getting married on May 9th, 2010 and i'm starting the planning now. I was wondering what would be some good colors for a wedding out side in a gazebo in front of the towns water fountain which is a little bit bigger then the gazebo. I really like cobalt blue but i would like -maybe- two other colors to go with it. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks in advance.
What classes should I take If I want a career in Architecture? I have another question on taking CAD classes. Im starting college this fall semester. My plan is to eventually become an Architect, mainly structural, mostly family homes. Ive been working for my fathers construction company since I graduated HS and I noticed that he pays a lot of money to this guy that draws up floor plans, and general building plans for simple home additions, gazebos etc. using AutoCAD and hands over his plans and work over to the city to be approved by the city's engineer, then we get the OK to start constructing. Well, I want to do what that guy does!!!! Now the thing is that in my schools' architecture program they have me start off with a "Free Hand Drawing"class... and Intro to CAD/CAD systems doesnt start until my third semester..... ----What if?--- I take my general ed classes along with my Freehand drawing class. AND!! take the Intro to CAD class that way I have an understanding of using AutoCAD, which allows me to draw up simple floor and room addition plans for my dads company, which, in return, allows me to make some money while I study to become an Architect while getting my feet wet in what I'm trying to eventually dedicate my life to doing. What what you do in my scenario? Any advice given to me is much appreciated, thank you very much... this an important time in my life, and I just want to start off on te right note. Thanks!

Flowers and combos? I'm getting married in late August. Our colors are periwinkle and silver. We are also planning a small outdoor ceremony in a gazebo in a park. We are doing silk arrangments and i'm trying to figure out what flowers would compliment each other and mixing them with the garland for the gazebo (haven't figured that out yet), what to do with the bouquets, and how to incorporated the styles into the coursages and boutineers. I really don't want roses, so I'm trying to come up with something unique. Suggestions?

Places to have a wedding? My fiance and I want an outdoor wedding but we want it up at his cousin's ranch. My parents are totally against it. But it has the best layout. It has a pond with a gazebo right in the middle of it. We are doing a beach/haiawiian style so my parents said the beach but they don't want us getting married at the beach his family goes to they want us to get married at the one my family goes too if we have it at the beach. But then again his mom already says that she feels left out of the wedding plans because he doesn't want to talk about it right now since its in 2008. What should I do? the ranch is four hours away and where his family lives... my folks are standing by its where the bride lives
